It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have to tell you that Ann McIntyre passed away at the weekend.
Ann was the General Secretary of SESA, Scottish Equitable Staff Association which then changed to Aegis the Union in 2000 under Ann’s leadership.
It was Ann’s great insight and leadership that started plotting the journey for Aegis to eventually become an independent trade union.
Ann recruited me as a union rep around the year 2000 and I remember being so impressed by the powerful position she had put the union in with the employer through her no-nonsense, straight talking, and "you have to do the right thing" attitude.
Everyone listened to Ann, she was a strong personality who always fought to get a fair outcome for her members.
Ann engaged with and built relationships with the TUC, Alliance for Finance and other union bodies to ensure the union world knew who Aegis were and to find the best training and conferences for the reps to go to.
She really was quite inspirational.
Ann retired in 2002 leaving Aegis in a strong position to move forward on its independence journey.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Ann’s family at this sad time.
