5/5 Aegis Daily Update

Safe working

On Sunday, the TUC and unions were invited to comment on a series of draft guidance documents from the Government on ‘safer workplaces’, in preparation for announcements expected in the next week about easing the lockdown. The TUC continues to seek to engage quickly and constructively with government on the details of these plans, but they have raised a series of serious concerns about the draft guidance and the process for consultation. Frances O'Grady, the TUC General Secretary, has written to Secretary of State Alok Sharma to set out these concerns, which were also covered in the Guardian and other media outlets.

The TUC will continue to press for significant improvements to the scope and content of the guidance over the coming days, and will keep colleagues informed of progress.

The TUC has also published updated advice on the immediate action that needs to be taken to ensure safe working and secure public support for a widespread return to work, with a focus on the production, publication and enforcement of proper risk assessments.
