Last week I attended my first TUC LGBT+ Committee meeting. When I was elected onto the TUC General Council last year I was asked to apply for a couple of Boards/Committees. I applied for and was accepted onto the TUC LGBT+ Committee and the TUC Union Learn Board for England.
At the meeting I was delighted to be welcomed by a really friendly and enthusiastic community. The committee was well over 20 strong, who were all very passionate about and focused on their cause.
The topics discussed ranged from looking at operating efficiencies, planning and organising the conference to discussing the outcomes of their recent survey. My role is to contribute wherever possible and to support the movement, especially the chair, Maria Exall (a friend of Aegis) at the TUC General Council meetings.
The TUC LGBT+ Conference will be held in London on 4th & 5th July, just in time for London Pride, and Aegis hope to send 2 delegates and 7 visitors from our rep community. We will be launching our own LGBT + section in the very near future so if you are interested in this or want to learn more about the committee or conference please get in touch.
