As a TUC General Council member, Brian Linn is also a long serving member of the TUC LGBT+ Committee.
Brian’s role is to support and bring the committees issues to the attention of the General Council.
The committee is currently organising the TUC LGBT+ Conference which takes place in London on 27 & 28 June.
Aegis has a motion at this year’s conference entitled: ‘The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on LGBT+ Workers.’
The motion talks about how the LGBT+ community is woefully underrepresented in IT and STEM subjects where the biggest job growth is likely to be when AI really takes hold.
The lack of LGBT+ workers involved in the decision-making algorithms of the future have already created systems with a number of built-in bias and discriminations which must be addressed.
The motion goes on to call on the TUC to work with employers and the UK Government to ensure LGBT+ workers are not left behind.
We must ensure that the opportunities and benefits created by AI are available to the LGBT+ community and that this new technology reduces inequality in the workplace by building a diverse and inclusive approach into our responses to Artificial Intelligence.
We will keep you posted on any further news on this motion in future months.
