Aegis Unionlearning in partnership with the Open University have come together to develop an exciting learning development opportunity for Aegon staff. We have identified three accredited courses that could help you develop in your current role, or help you progress into a new role. The courses last approximately 6 to 9 months studying part time in your own time. Support will be provided by both Aegis the Union and the Open University. These courses can be stand-alone or be the starting point on a learning journey that could lead to an OU Degree. Those earning under £25k may be eligible for Part Time Fee Grant and funding options may be available for those earning above this limit.

What Courses are available?

  • Professional Communication Skills for Business Studies

“Personal and corporate success in business relies on effective communication. Professional communication skills for business studies will help you acquire skills to distinguish you from your peers. This practical introductory OU level 1 module will empower you to undertake more insightful case-study analysis, write successful essays, and produce influential documents. From proposals to company reports, you’ll work with a wide range of texts from business studies modules and the wider business world, deepening your subject knowledge while developing your written communication skills – helping you to succeed in the field of business studies and business in general.”

  • Management Practice

“This module introduces management ideas and uses activities to build on your existing knowledge and skills through the application of management theory. You will develop your understanding of management practice in your work, and in the wider context of organisations. You will critically evaluate your workplace context in relation to management practice and review your knowledge and skills. This module is suitable for anyone who has undertaken 150 hours of workplace learning in the last three years and wants to develop an academic understanding of management disciplines such as operations, marketing, strategy, and their own management practice.”

  • An Introduction to Business and Management

“This key introductory OU level 1 module provides an accessible and comprehensive introduction to business and management in a globalised world. Through readings and international case studies you’ll explore a wide range of topics in contemporary business and management: what motivates people to work; how to assess financial soundness of a business; what attracts customers; how economic crises affect businesses; and ethical challenges in business and management. Using a blend of text, audio video and interactive online activities, you’ll develop vital skills for study and for work in business, public or voluntary sector organisations.”
